See page 4 Scammers steal $10K in Maspeth BY ANTHONY GIUDICE [email protected] @A_GiudiceReport Cops are searching for a group of scammers that recently swindled a 61-year-old woman from Maspeth out of $10,000. According to police, on Saturday, July 30, the victim received a phone call from a female suspect at approximately 3:59 p.m. e suspect posed as one of the victim’s daughters, crying hysterically and claiming she was in distress. At that time, cops said, another female suspect then spoke to the victim and posed as the daughter’s friend, fabricating a story that she let her daughter borrow a large sum of money and needed the money right away to pay for her mother-in-law’s funeral. e victim agreed to pay back some of the money that the suspect claimed she loaned to the victim’s daughter. A short while later, a male suspect arrived at the victim’s home in the vicinity of 61st Street and 59th Drive in Maspeth, and collected $10,000 from the victim, law enforcement agents said. e male suspect and another female then ed with a third, unidenti ed individual inside a red two-door Ford Mustang. Police released an image of the rst suspect, who is described as a white male, 30 to 40 years old, standing between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 10 inches, with facial hair.
