He made an appearance in 2006 at this Glendale location built on part of a “strong” center of industry in our community. What is the name of this location? Generations of people were born here; generations died here as well. Once counted among more than a dozen medical centers across the borough, this western Queens hospital, located near a major roadway, suffered an untimely demise in 2008 due to financial problems. We have thousands of photos in our archives, and we’ve selected just a few of them for this page to not only test your knowledge of our community but also perhaps inspire you — whether you’re 9 or 99, or any age in between — to share some memories with us. These pictures are of famous people and places in our community that we’ve covered through the years. You may recognize them right away, or you may need to think about it a little harder. Check out the Model T parked in front of this movie theater named for the neighborhood and, according to the marquee, featured Vincent Lopez in the Mad Dancer. The theater closed but was converted into a store where today customers can find some cheap Deals. Where is this location? This Queens park welcomed in 2012 the “Moving Wall,” a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington dedicated to the more than 52,000 Americans who died during the Vietnam War. The tribute was coordinated in part through the efforts of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 32, shown here with a color guard and a buglist playing “Taps.” What is this park, and where is it located? Teenagers at this Queens school couldn’t let slippery winter weather stop them from getting to and from class in this undated picture. This institution is particularly known for its basketball program, which has graduated some of the nation’s top hoop stars. What is this school, and where is it located? This Italian-American served as the grand marshal for a recent Columbus Day parade in our borough and toured local schools speaking about his experiences in the Final Frontier.
