Missing Maspeth girl found in U.K. CB 5 meets
The Zoning and Land Use
Committee of Community
Board 5 will conduct a
public meeting Wednesday night,
Sept. 4, in Maspeth regarding
a proposed animal shelter in
Ridgewood.
As announced by District
Manager Gary Giordano, the
session takes place at 7:30 p.m. on
Sept. 4 at the Knockdown Center,
located at 52-19 Flushing Ave.
Representatives of Animal Care
and Control of New York City, Inc.
and their environmental consultant,
AKRF Inc., will speak about the
proposal for 151 Woodward Ave.,
also known as 1904/1906 Flushing
Ave., in Ridgewood (Block 3376, Lots
1 and 7).
The plan calls for the cleanup
of contaminants from the former
auto wrecking and salvage site
there, and the creation of an animal
shelter for approximately 170 dogs
and cats. The contaminants at
this site are primarily petroleum
and metal related, caused by the
use of the site since 1962 for auto
wrecking and auto salvage.

A 16 -yea r-old gi rl from
Maspeth who ran away
to London was found
safe in “good condition” by the
London Police Department on
Wednesday.
Victoria Grabowski was last
seen around 10 a.m. Aug. 24 at her
residence in Queens.
Authori t ie s ar re s ted a
man in connection with her
disappearance.
Her uncle Arkadiusz Grabowski
said that her parents discovered
texts showing that she had been
talking to an older man in Britain,
and left on Saturday Aug. 24 from
JFK to f ly to London.
“The texts show that she got
fascinated with London and
wanted to move there,” said
Arkadiusz, who added that the
parents are basing the age of the
British man on a picture in the
text thread.
Arkadiusz said that Grabowski
paid for the ticket in cash, though
her parents don’t know where she
got it.
The identity of the man in
custody has not been released.
The NYPD worked with London
detectives to locate the girl and
communicate with her family.

A Bushwick man landed in
a Queens jail on Saturday
morning after allegedly
slashing a man’s legs at a Ridgewood
intersection.
Law enforcement sources said
Herman Mateo, 31, of Porter
Avenue attacked the 19-year-old
male victim at about 1:25 a.m. on
Aug. 24 at the corner of Seneca
Avenue and Cornelia Street.
Officers from the 104th Precinct,
in responding to a 911 call about
the assault, found the victim
with slash wounds to his legs.
Paramedics rushed the victim
to Elmhurst Hospital in stable
condition.
At this time, police sources said
the motive for the attack remains
unclear and under investigation.
According to a report on the
Citizen app, the perpetrator
allegedly used a machete, but
sources familiar with the case
could not confirm if that was the
weapon.
Responding officers picked up
Mateo shortly after the incident in
front of an apartment building on
Cornelia Street near Onderdonk
Avenue, just a few feet from where
the attack occurred.
He was also found to have
marijuana and narcotics in his
possession, police said.
Mateo was charged with
second-degree counts of assault,
menacing and criminal trespass,
along with criminal possession of
a weapon, criminal possession of a
controlled substance and unlawful
possession of marijuana.
