Salvatore Ferro, a left-handed
pitcher for the Middle Village
based MidVille Dodgers,
was the star of the St. Francis Preparatory
(SFP) Terriers during his four
years at the school, and capped off his
high school career by winning the
Edward Kent Memorial Award given
to the Most Valuable Player (MVP) on
the varsity baseball team.
During his tenure at SFP, Ferro was
a starting pitcher for the Terriers for
all four years as he worked his way up
to the varsity squad.
In his freshman year he was named
the team MVP; in his sophomore year
he was named most improved player;
in his junior year he earned the coaches
award; and in his senior year he earned
the Edward Kent Memorial Award.
Ferro dominated on the mound
during his fi nal year at SFP, pitching to a
4-2 record with 27 innings pitched, posting
a 2.25 earned run average (ERA)
giving up only 17 hits, and allowing
10 walks while striking out 30 batters.
His prowess wasn’t just on the
mound, either. In his senior year, Ferro
lead his team in batting, getting 10
hits in 24 at-bats, good enough for a .417
average. He also scored four runs and
drove in six.
Ferro earned a plethora of other
awards during his time at SFP and
looks to continue his success as he
moves into the college ranks.
