Eyes Infrastructure Projects by Noah Zuss The Queens Borough Board and Queens Borough Cabinet reviewed active infrastructure projects—including the reconstruction of Flushing’s Roosevelt Avenue Bridge— during a joint meeting at Queens Borough Hall in Kew Gardens on Monday, July 21. The city Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Queens borough commissioner, Dahlia Hall, explained to the chairpersons and district managers of Queens’ 14 community boards the need for construction access to properties adjacent to the Roosevelt Avenue Bridge, which carries the elevated 7 subway line over the Flushing Creek and Van Wyck Expressway. “We’re here to discuss the temporary construction easements we need,” Hall said. “It’s for temporary construction easements to help do our work more quickly.” Queens Borough President Melinda Katz and several City Council members from Queens attended, and the temporary easements were granted. Glendale Library Renovation Nears Will Include Accessibility For Disabled Persons Matthew Baird of Matthew Baird Architects explained the design includes plans to make the building ADA accessible. The service and exit doors will be modified, and an elevator and an ADA compliant staff restroom will be installed as part of the $2.8 million renovation, The library, located at 78-60 73rd Pl. off Myrtle Avenue, will be renovated to reveal its original 1935 style, while getting modern -SEE BOROUGH ON PG. 53- HE’S WANTED FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE The NYPD is seeking the public’s help in finding the man pictured at right who is wanted for a recent attempted rape on the Elmhurst/Jackson Heights border. Reportedly, the attack occurred at 5 a.m. on June 6 inside an apartment building in the vicinity of Roosevelt Avenue. Police said the perpetrator—described as a Hispanic male in his 20s, standing 5’4”- tall and weighing 150 lbs.—followed a female victim into the apartment building, threw her to the ground and attempted to rape her. Shortly thereafter, he fled in an unknown direction. Officers from the 115th Precinct responded to the incident; the victim was not injured. Authorities said the suspect was last seen wearing a short-sleeved button down shirt and blue jeans.
