Here’s another public improvement scene from our past. This
May 1925 photo shows street cleaning crews removing garbage
from a location on Forest Avenue in Ridgewood.
Thousands of Queens residents have passed through the halls
of Forest Hills High School through the decades. This undated
photo shows the exterior of the institution of higher learning
located at 67-01 110th St.
With the U.S. Open now only weeks away, we leave you this week
with a classic tennis shot from the tournament’s former home. This
September 1937 image shows a match during the National Tennis
Championship at Forest Hills Tennis Stadium.
The last farmland in Forest Hills can be seen prior to development
in this Oct. 19, 1928 photo taken from Yellowstone Boulevard
near what was then Whitepoint Junction.
Ridgewood residents may recognize this building as the
current home of the Ridgewood Y, but decades ago, this was
the Ridgewood Court House. This Feb. 9, 1938 image shows the
court at the corner of Catalpa Avenue and 64th Street.
