baseball team became the Ridgewood,
Glendale, Middle Village,
and Maspeth (RGMVM) Little League
Junior World Series champions by
beating a very talented and wellcoached
Garity Post baseball team in
a tough three-game series.
The fi rst game was a battle as the
Vipers won in extra innings. Pitcher
Michael Bardales started off the game
well, recording several strikeouts.
Dante Gargiulo (P) came on in relief
and notched the victory with craft y
pitching, striking out seven. The
game-winning run was driven in by
the tough-headed Andre Elias (2B) in
the top of the ninth. The defensive play
of the fi ery Neil O’Donnell (RF) saved
the fi rst game as he made a spectacular
leaping stop in right fi eld preventing
Garity Post from scoring.
Garity Post dominated the second
game of the series with the Garity Post
boys providing exceptional pitching,
timely fi elding, and clutch hitting for
the victory.
In the fi nal and deciding game of the
championship series, the gutsy and
hard throwing Thomas Jankowski
was lights out, taking control of the
game, having command of his fastball,
cutter and forkball, going the distance
and notching 12 strikeouts in leading
the Vipers to the championship victory.
The Vipers, refusing to lose, came out
on top early in the fi rst inning, scoring
four runs. The consistent hitting and
cunning speedsters John Amore (SS)
and Dante Gargiulo (C) started off the
game each stroking singles and advancing
on the base paths with both runners
poised in scoring position.
The clutch-hitting Gianluca Chiodi
(1B), in true winning fashion, executed
a perfect squeeze play to bring in the
fi rst run of the game. The next batters,
power hitters Thomas Jankowski (P)
and Mike Hubert (CF) each muscled
ropes to the outfi eld to drive in more
runs. The fi nal run of the inning was
brought in by the confi dent and hot
hitting Thomas Breen who crushed a
line drive past third base.
The Vipers executed perfect defense
throughout the game, but the
outfield play of Mike Hubert (CF),
Thomas Breen (RF) and Neil O’Donnell
(LF) provided good stops and perfect
throws to the Vipers confi dent infi elders
John Amore (SS), Anthony Agosta
(3B) and Michael Bardales (2B) who
each relayed the ball to the plate on
three diff erent occasions for catcher
Dante Gargiulo (C) who executed perfectly
with tough, acrobatic play for
three put outs at home plate.
In the third inning the Vipers
scored two more runs when the
hard-hitting Mike Hubert (CF) started
off the inning with a hard hit drive
and stole second and third. He was
driven home by the super talented
Anthony Agosta’s (3B) single up the
middle. The clever Mike Bardales (2B),
who has been swinging a strong bat,
doubled to left bringing Agosta home.
In the fourth inning the number
three hitter, Gianluca Chiodi (1B), a
great contact hitter and smart player,
started a two out rally with a drive to
the outfi eld and stole second and third.
He was driven in by a hard hit line drive
by Thomas Jankowski (P) who advanced
on a sharp hit ball by Mike Hubert (CF).
The Vipers fi nal run came in the
fi ft h inning when Mike Bardelos (2B)
hit a monster shot over the left fi elder’s
head to the fence for a triple. Mike
was driven home by Thomas Breen
(RF) who lined a hard hit ball to the
outfi eld and was advanced on the base
path by Andre Elias’s (LF) smart at bat.
In the bottom of the last inning
great pitching and defense closed out
the game as the Vipers became the 2017
RGMVM Junior Division Little League
Champions.
