Brooklyn teen pleads guilty to Richmond
Hill rape
A Brooklyn teenager has admitted
to sexually assaulting a 50-year-old
female shopkeeper in Richmond Hill
this past May, prosecutors announced
on Monday.
Donovan Fenton, 17, of Bedford-Stuyvesant
also pleaded guilty to fi rst-degree
rape and two counts of first-degree
robbery, according to Queens District
Attorney Richard A. Brown.
“At 17, most youngsters are looking
forward to college and careers,” Brown
said. “This defendant, however, is
facing a lengthy term of incarceration.”
Queens Supreme Court Justice Richard
L. Buchter indicated he will order
Fenton to serve 20 years in prison
when the defendant is sentenced on
July 24.
According to the charges, Fenton
walked into a discount store on May 6.
The woman working at the store felt
uncomfortable and asked him to leave.
He returned moments later, where he
threatened the 50-year-old woman
with a knife.
Police said Fenton threatened to
kill the victim, then forced her down
to the shop’s basement with him. He
then forced the victim to perform
oral sex on him at knifepoint before
raping her. He then fl ed the scene on
foot aft er stealing approximately $60
from the store.
After her initial encounter with
Fenton, police say the victim called a
friend, asking her to stay on the line
with her. The friend called 911, and
offi cers arrived on the scene, shortly
thereaft er, cops obtained a description
of Fenton, and found him less than
three blocks from the store.
The investigation was conducted by
detectives and offi cers from the 102nd
Precinct and the Queens Special Victims
Squad.
Fenton also committed two armed
robberies days before the rape,
according to the charges. On April
30, the defendant walked into a deli
wielding a knife and a bandana covering
his face, demanding cash from
the employee. On May 5, the defendant
walked into a discount store wearing
the same bandana and armed with a
knife, and robbed the store of cash
from the register.
