Free tennis, soccer, track and golf
for kids coming to Queens parks

Queens kids looking to get active
during their summer vacation
can take advantage of a number
of free sports programs taking place at
parks throughout the borough.
The City Parks Foundation is
kicking off its 2018 Summer Sports
Program, which will bring free sports
programming to the city’s kids in their
own neighborhoods. The program
brings sports instruction, coaching
and equipment to over 12,000 children
each year. Registration details can be
found at cityparksfoundation.org.
CityParks’ tennis program will run
through Aug. 13 and is off ered to kids
ages 6 to 17. Off erings include free beginner
lessons, tournaments, leagues,
excellence programs and special
events, and free use of equipment is
provided for those who do not have a
tennis racket.
The program will be run through
the Alley Pond Tennis Center, Astoria
Park, Jamaica’s Baisley Pond Park,
Rosedale’s Brookville Park, Fresh
Meadows’ Cunningham Park, Flushing
Meadows Corona Park, Woodhaven’s
Forest Park, Middle Village’s
Juniper Valley Park and Flushing’s
Kissena Park, where groups will meet
twice a week.
The track and fi eld program will
run until Aug. 15 and is off ered to
children ages 5 to 17. Participants will
learn the basics of the sport, as well as
hurdles, relay races, long jump, shot
put and javelin throw.
The program will be run through
Astoria Park, Jamaica’s Baisley Pond
Park and Detective Keith Williams
Playground, Woodhaven’s Forest
Park, and Middle Village’s Juniper
Valley Park, where groups will meet
twice a week.
The soccer program will until Aug.
9 and is off ered to kids 8 to 12. New
York City Football Club (NYCFC) and
CityParks coaches will teach kids the
basics of the sport and play pick-upstyle
games.
The program will be run out of Corona’s
Playground for All Children, St.
Albans’ Nautilus Field, and Astoria’s

Triboro Bridge Playground and
groups will meet twice a week.
The golf program will run in two
sessions (July 2-27 and July 30-Aug.
2) and is off ered to kids 6 to 17. The
program teaches kids the basics of the
sport and skills including discipline
and sportsmanship. Free equipment
use is included.
The program will be run through
Fresh Meadows’ Cunningham Park,
Corona’s Park of the Americas, St.
Albans’ Nautilus Field, and Flushing’s
Kissena Park Corridor, where groups
will meet twice a week.
