WWW.QNS.COM RIDGEWOOD TIMES JUNE 8, 2017 43 BWG teams victorious in several Memorial Day weekend tournaments Many RA Flyers become two-time Diocesan champions Runners for the St. Margaret/ Resurrection Ascension Flyers earned medals during the Diocesan Championships on Sunday, May 21. The team’s fi rst two-time Diocesan champs were the Kelly brothers, senior Owen for his running long jump and bantam Andrew for his 800-meter run. Both Owen and Andrew won for these same events indoors. Joining the Kelly brothers as twotime Diocesan champs were junior boys Ricky Hubert and Kacper Niepokoj, who won for their 800-medley relay. They won with fi rst-time Diocesan champs Victor Ostling and Sean Reilly. Also winning their second Diocesan title this season are novice girls Caroline Gordon and bantam girl Madeline Maurceri, along with Olaia Higgins for their 400-meter medley run. The Flyers’ other fi rst place winners were peewees Sadie Donahue for her long jump and Olivia Santoro for her 50-meter dash. Receiving silver for their second place performance was bantam boy Kevin Isca for his 50-meter dash. Earning bronze for third place were senior boy Nicholas Catapano for his 800-meter run and novice boys Ethan Joseph, Anthony Pedicini, Gavin Walsh and Frank Santoro for their 400-meter meter relay. Also being awarded the bronze medal for fourth place fi nish was senior boy John Boger and bantam boy Thomas Fischer for their long jumps, as well as Conn Reilly for coming in fi ft h place in the 800-meter run. The Flyers coaches are equally proud of peewee boy James Gordon for his 50-meter dash, bantam boys Josiah Boulet and Unai Higgins for their 100-meter dash, novice girl Caira Reilly for her 400-meter run, and Athelia and Elias Mulligan for their 200-meter run. Here are some of the results: · The BWG 2008 Blue team won 1st place in their division aft er winning all the games against Atletico FC, Mineola, Kings Park United and New York Stars; · The BWG 2007 Blue team won 1st place in their division by winning their games against Commack, Huntington, Long Island Premiere and Kings Park; · The players on the BWG 2006 Blue team took home 1st place in their division aft er winning all the games against New York Stars, Patchogue and Long Island United; · BWG 2006 White team also earned 1st place honors in their division by defeating Elwood, Mineola, SUSA and Sound Beach; and · The BWG 2005 Blue won 1st place in their division aft er winning all their games against Long Island United, BWG 05 White, Commack and International Soccer Club. The BWG 2001 group was able to win their semifi nal State Cup game against Cedar Stars 3-2. Aft er trailing 2-0 early in the game, the team was able to rally for three unanswered goals for the win. The 2001 BWG team will face Manhattan Soccer Club in the New York State Cup fi nal on Sunday, June 11. The BWG U16 Blue team traveled to Pennsylvania to compete in the FC Delco Tournament. The team was able to win 1st place in their division by tying the FC Stars and winning the rest of their games against Manhattan Soccer Club, Kirkwood United and Cold Spring Harbor. The BWG 2004 Girls, Blue Team, also hit the road and traveled to East Fishkill where they too won 1st place by defeating Stanford, Monroe, and tying Ajax NJ. In the same tournament, the BWG U12 Girls Sky team took home 1st place in their division as well. The girls beat FC Somers (2-1), AJAX NJ (4-3) and Chappaqua (6-0) to claim the top spot. In other BWG news, Jack McGlynn member of the 2002 BWG Academy team was the latest BWG player to represent the United States National Team. McGlynn was the captain of the USA U15 team in their game against Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the USA was victorious by a score of 2-1. Another benchmark for the BWG academy program was reached as the 16 team reached the U.S. Soccer Academy playoff s with impressive wins against PA Classics and Boston Bolts.
