After pressure from City Council Member Elizabeth Crowley, the state Department of Transportation (DOT) has committed to maintaining the underpasses below the Long Island Expressway at 74th and 80th streets in Maspeth. The underpasses, which are marred by pigeon nesting and excrement, are included in Bridge Washing Contract XM13.02, D262466, which was approved last Thursday, May 22. Under the contract, the underpasses will be washed every three months. “These underpasses are used by -SEE UNDERPASS ON PG. 54- POLS FETED AT 110TH COUNCIL FUND-RAISER The 110th Precinct Community Council honored police officers and local leaders at its 2014 annual fundraiser last Wednesday, May 21. The council presented the 110th Precinct’s Sgt. Diana Ragab, P.O. Abigail Soto and Police Administrative Aide Lauro Vazquez with the respective Supervisor of the Year, Police Officer of the Year and Civilian of the Year awards. The honorees were selected by Deputy Inspector Ronald D. Leyson, the 110th Precinct commanding officer. Three other awardees selected by the 110th Precinct Community Council were City Council Members Daniel Dromm and Julissa Ferreras and Queens County Savings Bank.
