Authorities identifi ed the victim as Dennis Sanchez of Vanderveer Street in Bushwick. Offi cers from the 83rd Precinct and EMS units found the injured Sanchez unconscious in front of a home on Park Street near Beaver Street at about 6:27 p.m. Monday night. Paramedics rushed Sanchez to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Through a preliminary investigation, police determined that three Hispanic males were observed fl eeing northbound on Beaver Street after the fatal bullet was fi red. During Tuesday night’s 83rd Precinct Community Council meeting, Deputy Inspector Max Tolentino—the precinct’s commander—indicated the shooting may have stemmed from a dispute involving two groups of people that started in Williamsburg. “The argument turned into two individuals pulling out guns,” he said, “at least one individual pulling out a gun and handing it over to someone else and several shots were fi red. ... We do not know if Sanchez was the intended target.” Citing information police received, Tolentino believes the shooting may be connected to a fatal assault that occurred Tuesday at a Williamsburg housing project. Anyone with information regarding the shooting that could prove helpful is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website, www. nypdcrimestoppers.com, or text their tips to CRIMES (274637), then enter TIP577.
