St. Luke’s set the tone early, with some solid defense and held St. Margaret’s off the scoreboard in the top half of the fi rst inning. In St. Luke’s half of the opening frame, they managed to plate two runs. Thomas Nagle and Kemon Lardas both scored on a hard single to left fi eld by Jude Cutolo. St. Luke’s offense added three more runs in the second inning, led by fi rst basemen Cosmo Sanicola, who had a well-placed two-run single into right fi eld. It was much of the same on defense for St. Luke’s with impressive pitching a stellar defense. Guarneri kept the St. Margaret hitters confused and off-balance at the plate with the combination of his well-placed fastball and devastating curve-ball. Guarneri was helped by the defense behind him, led by shortstop Kemon Lardas, who made several fi ne plays throughout the game, and Thanasi Dilos, whose solid catching skills helped contain the St. Margaret’s running game. St. Luke’s added runs in the third and fourth innings as they cruised to the 7-3 win. Guarneri’s fi nal pitching stats were six innings, zero hits, three runs, one earned run, four walks and 13 strikeouts. as they once again won all ve matches including a huge 12-point comeback by the Lady Argos. The Lady Argos girls’ lacrosse team won their nal game of the season on May 12 by a score of 16-5. The game marks the last season for Maspeth High School seniors. With the win over John Dewey High School, the MHS seniors celebrated their last regular season game win before graduation.
