Haller shutout Modica behind the strong pitching of Joseph Labarbara and Ryan Regan. The tandem allowed only two hits while striking out 13 in five innings. Joseph Pennolino made a sliding catch in center, and Adam Alava caught a runner at the plate in standout defensive plays. Labarbara struck out eight of the 13 batters he faced, striking out the side in the first and second innings. Regan also struck out five of his eight batters, including striking out the side in the final frame. Despite nine strikeouts by Modica Pitching, the Haller and Haller offense was potent. It was led by Labarbara who was 2-2 at the plate, with a triple, a grand slam and five RBI. Pennolino was 2-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Jack Cayli added a deep shot in the top of the first for an RBI double. Cayli also walked twice and caught a solid three innings behind the plate. James Szala added and RBI single in the second. Dean Butkiewicz, Benjamin Muratovic, Aidin Dzaferovic, Nicholas Macio and Stephen Abuso all scored single runs in the win. Nicholas Audelo walked in his only plate appearance but was caught stealing third. Next up for Haller is a two game series with Detailed Realtors. Blau Weiss Gottschee Girls Advance The U-15 BWG girls soccer team advanced to the semifinal of the Long Island Cup with a 1-0 win over Auburndale on Saturday, May 3. The lone goal was scored by Jackie Lada off a corner kick in the first half. The next day the girls turned a 2-1 second half deficit into a 5-2 win over Franklin Square to continue their unbeaten start to the spring season of the Long Island Junior Soccer League. Four different girls found the back of the net in Sunday’s win.
