Living up to its morbid nickname as the “Boulevard of Death,” the 7.2-mile segment of Queens Boulevard has seen 23 fatalities in accidents since 2008. Finally, the DOT will institute an Arterial Slow Zone in August on a by Robert Pozarycki “Slow zones” will soon be implemented on three of Queens’ busiest roadways as part of the “Vision Zero” traffic safety initiative, officials announced at a Long Island City press conference last Thursday, May 1. The “Arterial Slow Zones” will bring reduced speed limits and prolonged traffic signal times in an effort to reduce accidents involving serious injuries or fatalities to drivers and pedestrians alike. Later this month, the city Department of Transportation (DOT) will institute an Arterial Slow Zone on Northern Boulevard between 40th Road in Long Island City and 114th Street in East Elmhurst. The 4.2-mile stretch has seen five pedestrian fatalities in the last five years. -SEE SLOW ZONES ON PG. 56- MOTHER’S DAY COMES EARLY IN WOODSIDE Cop Lands In Jail For Downloading Kid Porn Gets Cuffed At Ozone Park Home by Robert Pozarycki Detectives collared a police officer from Ozone Park last week who allegedly downloaded child pornography on his home computer, it was reported. Law enforcement sources identify the suspect as P.O. Yong-Fa Wu, 34, who remains in custody on $50,000 bail and suspended without pay. According to information provided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, Wu’s home was raided early last Monday morning, Apr. 28, as part of an ongoing investigation. On Apr. 1, law enforcement agents tracked a peer-to-peer Internet network in which several individuals—one of whom was allegedly Wu—shared 60 files containing explicit images of children. Reportedly, one of the videos showed a girl between 11 and 13 years of age engaging in sex with an adult male. Based on information obtained during the investigation, police linked the videos to Wu’s IP address, leading detectives to obtain a search -SEE PORN ON PG. 54- R’wood Leader Lauded At Qns.
