Author, journalist and activist Jane Jacobs, shown in this 1961 photo, fought against the proposed Lower Manhattan Expressway and other urban renewal projects of that time in New York City, claiming they respect the needs of city residents. Her book “The Death and Life of Great American Cities” is regarded as one of the most influential works in modern city planning. Her life will be celebrated across the city on the weekend of May 3-4 with a series of “walking conversations” sponsored by the Municipal Art Society. It’s important to provide the necessary resources to my constituents to help them in the process.” Addabbo said. “Some people have lived full lives and now find themselves back at square one. It’s not uncommon given the cost of living in the city that more and more seniors are looking for employment.” Selective companies catering to an older demographic were chosen to participate and can help those over 50 get back on the path to employment. Representatives from Family Aides Inc., the New York State Department of Labor, the YWCA City of New York Women’s Empowerment Program, the Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center and several more will be present to detail their companies’ missions and help attendees find the full time and part time work they need. The 50+ Job Fair will be held Friday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Queens Community House in Kew Gardens, 80-02 Kew Gardens Rd.
