TIMES, THURSDAY, APRIL 24, 2014 • 18 Ex-Court Officer Jailed For Child Abuse & Porn A New York State court officer has been sentenced to up to 32 1/3 years in prison for sexually abusing two young family members, then ages 10 and 14, in his Springfield Gardens residence in separate incidents during an 18-month period between 2008 and 2009. The defendant was additionally convicted of both possessing and promoting a sexual performance by a child in connection with videos and hundreds of images of child pornography found on his computer. Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown identified the defendant as Kerbet Dixon, 50, of Springfield Gardens. As a court officer, Dixon was last assigned to the New York State Supreme Court, Civil Term, in Jamaica. Dixon was convicted last month of one count of first-degree course of sexual conduct, one count of thirddegree sexual abuse, one count of endangering the welfare of a child, 484 counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child and 150 counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child following a six-week jury trial before Queens Supreme Court Justice Richard L. Stations Jamaica Center-bound J trains and Middle Village-bound M trains will skip the Hewes Street, Lorimer Street and Flushing Avenue stations on Wednesdays through Fridays from 9:45 a.m. until 3 p.m. through Friday, May 9. For service to these stations, take the J or M train to Myrtle Avenue, then transfer to a Manhattan-bound J or M train. For service from these stations, take the J or M train to Marcy Avenue (only for riders with Unlimited MetroCards) or Essex Street, then transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound J train or a Middle Village-bound M train. It was noted that Manhattanbound J trains will end quickstop service at 9:45 a.m. Wednesdays through Fridays until May 9. All Manhattan-bound J trains will stop at Flushing Avenue, Lorimer Street and Hewes Street after that time. Weekend Interruption On J Line In Brooklyn Jamaica Center-bound J trains will operate express service between from 11 a.m. until 3:05 p.m. through Tuesday, Apr. 29. Riders can transfer between L trains at Broadway Junction to continue their trip. It was noted that all L trains between Rockaway Parkway and Broadway Junction will operate every 24 minutes. Riders are advised to allow for additional travel time. More Disruptions Affect The 7 Line Flushing-bound 7 trains will skip the 82nd Street, 90th Street, 103rd Street and 111th Street stations this weekend, from 11:45 p.m. Friday, Apr. 25, until 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 28. For service to these stations, take the 7 train to Junction Boulevard or Mets-Willets Point, then transfer to a Manhattan-bound 7 train. For service from these stations, take the 7 train to Junction Boulevard or 74th Street, then transfer to a Flushing-bound 7 train.A dditionally, Flushing-bound 7 trains will run express service between Queensboro Plaza and Mets- Willets Point on Monday, Apr. 28, through Thursday, May 1, from 10:15 a.m. until 3 p.m. These trains will continue to stop at Woodside-61st Street and Junction Boulevard. For service to the 33rd Street, 40th Street, 46th Street, 52nd Street, 69th Street, 74th Street, 82nd Street, 90th Street, 103rd Street and 111th Street stations, take the 7 train to Woodside- 61st Street, Junction Boulevard or Mets-Willets Point, then transfer to a Manhattan-bound 7 train. Riders are advised to allow for additional travel time. More Split Service On L Line In Bklyn. L trains will operate in two sections—between Eighth Avenue and Broadway Junction and between Broadway Junction and Rockaway Parkway—on Mondays and Tuesdays HE’S WANTED FOR GRAND LARCENIES Police are seeking the suspect who used a stolen debit card to swipe cash from ATMs at stores in Woodside and Greenpoint. Reportedly, the crook made his first illegal withdrawal at 2:41 p.m. on Mar. 28 at the Rite Aid pharmacy located at 60-26 Woodside Ave., stealing $400 in cash. An additional $900 was removed later that day from other ATMs in the Woodside area. The following day, law enforcement sources said, the suspect removed $200 from an ATM at the Pizzeria Deli located at 887 Manhattan Ave. in Greenpoint at 3 p.m. on Mar. 29. Reportedly, the crook took an additional $1,400 from other ATMs in Greenpoint. TRAFFIC NEWS and Updates New York City Department Of Transportation Because of ongoing construction work at several locations throughout Queens and Brooklyn, the city DOT has announced numerous street closures in local neighborhoods for the upcoming week. The announced diversions are current as of Wednesday, Apr. 23. The DOT may shut down other roads should the need for emergency repairs arise. Streets and highways that are affected by closures during this week include the following: Lane Closures On Van Wyck Expwy. One of three lanes in each direction of the Van Wyck Expressway between Jewel Avenue and Union Turnpike may be closed on Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. due to construction work related to the Kew Gardens rehabilitation project. Additionally, up to two lanes in either direction of the expressway in the same section may be closed on overnights from 1 to 5 a.m. Night Resurfacing Along Myrtle Ave. Weather permitting, a contracting crew is scheduled to conduct nighttime street milling along Myrtle Avenue between Palmetto and Himrod streets in Bushwick on Thursday, Apr. 24. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes while the street is closed. Parking on this section of Myrtle Avenue will also be prohibited during milling; any vehicles found parked on the street can and will be towed away at the owner’s expense. Kew Gdns. Project Affects Union Tpke. Long-term construction related to the state Department of Transportation’s Kew Gardens Interchange project will require the right lane of Union Turnpike eastbound to be closed at all times between 128th and 134th streets. All existing traffic lanes will remain open and are shifted to the left. Lane Closures On Grand Central Pkwy. One lane of the Grand Central Parkway in each direction will be closed between 82nd and 111th streets on weekdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. on weekdays. Lane closures will also take place from 10 p.m. Fridays to 7 a.m. Saturdays and from 10 p.m. Saturdays to 3 p.m. Sundays.
