Captain Gregory Mackie was reassigned to the 109th Precinct to begin training of cers for its Neighborhood Community Of cer (NCO) program. In a farewell letter to residents posted on the 104th Precinct Community Council’s Facebook page, Mackie said he was excited about the opportunity, but that he enjoyed working at the 104th Precinct for the last 1 1/2 years. “It is a very exciting endeavor which I am proud to be a part of; it’s an opportunity to mold 37 of the NYPD’s newest of cers into community-oriented cops who are attuned to what the community’s biggest concerns are on a one-to-one basis, and cops who will work collaboratively with residents on an ongoing basis to solve real neighborhood problems and achieve positive results,” Mackie wrote. Mackie found favor with community and civic activists for his efforts to squash quality-of-life problems. Robert Holden, Juniper Park Civic Association president, said Mackie was quick to answer the civic group’s concerns regarding the illegal sale of cars on Middle Village streets. “He was great,” Holden said. “He did a massive towing operation all over the neighborhood that led to a half-dozen cars being taken off the streets.” As of April 6, according to police, a new executive of cer at the 104th Precinct has yet to be assigned.
