The eighth annual Queens World Film
Festival is coming to Astoria from March
15 to 25. The festival is programmed in
thematic blocks with evocative titles,
and each program is followed by a
post-screening dialogue to engage audiences.
Over the course of the festival,
about 180 fi lms from various countries
around the world will be showcased.
The Museum of the Moving Image (36-01
35th Ave., Astoria) and Kaufman Astoria
Studios (34-12 36th St., Astoria) will the
venues hosting this year’s festival. For

The Queens Botanical Garden is hosting
a Compost for Community Gardens event
by the NYC Compost Project. The event is
presented in partnership with Green-
Thumb. QBG is an urban oasis where
people, plants and cultures are celebrated
through inspiring gardens, innovative
educational programs and real world applications
of environmental stewardship.
Remagine your garden as one where yard
waste and veggie scraps are transformed
into a rich soil amendment that creates
a lush bounty. The event will take place
from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The event is free. To

SATURDAY, MARCH 17
The Astoria Bookshop, along with
guest author Dana Wulfekotte, will
host a Children’s Storytime event from
1 to 1:30 p.m. Dana will be introducing
her new book, “Rabbit & Possum,”
which is about a funny picture book on
friendship between two best friends,
Rabbit and Possum. Dana Wulfekotte is
a freelance animator, comic artist and
children’s book author/illustrator. She
has also done work for Buzzfeed, Cartoon
Network, Nickelodeon and FOX.

Check out some amazing natural
landscapes right in your backyard
at Highland Park and the Ridgewood
Reservoir. The Urban Park Rangers
will host a photography tour of the
area, where you can focus on stunning

kingdom at Queens Botanical Garden’s
Fun with Fungi: Mycoculture using
Compost event. From 10:30 a.m. to
12:30 p.m., you will learn how compost
is applied as a substrate to cultivate
beneficial fungi. The event is presented

basketball team is back to host another
wheelchair basketball scrimmage.

to play wheelchair basketball? Well,

scrimmage with the Brooklyn Nets
Wheelchair Basketball team. From 7
to 9:30 p.m., the Al Oerter Recreation
Center will hold the scrimmage. The
