By Anthony Giudice agiudice@ridgewoodtimes.com @A_GiudiceReport After two impressive 40-point victories over Kingsborough Community College (60-20) and Borough of Manhattan Community College (72-32), the LaGuardia Community College (LAGCC) Lady Red Hawks found a way to come from behind and defeat CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) rival Queensborough Community College by a score of 73-55 on Jan. 13. The Lady Red Hawks fell behind early, trailing Queensboorugh 30-26. After halftime LAGCC found their game and dominated in the third and fourth quarters, scoring 47 points in the two frames, while holding the Tigers to only 25. Sarah Edwards had a record night, passing Kristen Deer for the school record for free throws made in a career. Edwards sank five on the night to give her 89 over her two years at LAGCC, surpassing the previous mark of 85. Edwards also moved into second place on the all-time school scoring list, as her 13 points gave her 465 all-time to jump ahead of Emily Arias’ 460 points. Kailyn Richburg also set records during the game, smashing the school’s single-game steals record by recording 13, beating the previous record of eight. Richburg also added 14 points to her stat sheet and fell three assists shy of a triple-double. Briana Johnson led all Lady Red Hawks with 15 points. Marika Gordon dominated in the paint, registering 10 points and 18 rebounds, 12 of which were offensive rebounds. The Lady Red Hawks improve to 12-3 on the year and remain undefeated in the CUNYAC with an 8-0 record. The win also gives them a 10-1 Region XV record.
