According to authorities, the suspect — identified as a male Hispanic, approximately 35 years old, standing between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall — entered a jewelry store located at 181 Knickerbocker Ave. where he asked the clerk to try on a yellow gold Cuban chain necklace, at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Christmas Eve. The suspect put the necklace on and fled on foot without paying for the item, valued at $5,375. In the second incident, police stated that the suspect entered a jewelry store located at 459 Knickerbocker Ave. and asked the clerk to try on a yellow gold Cuban chain necklace and bracelet on Dec. 31 at approximately 10:20 a.m. When the suspect had both items, once again took off on foot without paying for the items valued at approximately $4,500. All calls and messages are kept confidential. 106th Precinct Ozone Park, Howard Beach, South Ozone Park, Richmond Hill Ozone Park murder may be drug related: cops Police are continuing to investigate the death of a 51-year-old man who was found shot inside his home on Jan. 11. Authorities said Frankie Nieves was discovered with a gunshot wound to his chest in his residence on Peconic Street near Boss Street at 7:56 a.m. Monday. Officers from the 106th Precinct responded to the scene along with paramedics, who rushed Nieves to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. In a post on the 106th Precinct Community Council’s Facebook page, Deputy Inspector Jeffrey Schiff, the 106th Precinct’s commander, indicated the homicide appears to be drug related, and two Hispanic males were believed to have been involved. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing, police said. All calls and messages are kept confidential. Crook denied cash in failed Howard Beach heist Police are looking for a man who made an unsuccessful attempt at robbing a Howard Beach bank on Jan. 8. According to authorities, the suspect entered the Chase Bank, located at 156-33 Cross Bay Blvd., at about 4:30 p.m. He approached a teller and demanded money, but fled emptyhanded when the teller refused to comply. Officers from the 106th Precinct responded to the scene; there were no injuries. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male who stands at 5 foot 8 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds.
