The Lady Red Hawks were slow out of the gate, falling behind the Geckos by 19 points early on. LAGCC tried to battle back throughout and were able to consistently keep the game within 10-15 points, but couldn’t rally enough to get back into the game. Briana Johnson led the way for the Lady Red Hawks with 20 points. Janae Gibson and Kailyn Richburg each added 11 points in the loss, and Marika Gordon scored late to keep her double-double streak alive at 10 games. Gateway Community College handed LAGCC their third loss of the season, as they drop to 9-3 overall, but remain at 7-1 in the region and 5-0 in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC). Gateway continues their great year, improving to 6-1, with their only defeat coming at the hands of No. 1 ranked Roxbury. The Lady Red Hawks will next take on the Kingsborough Wave for the second and fi nal time this year on Tuesday, Jan. 5. The road game marks the sixth meeting between the two teams, and LaGuardia is 4-1 against their conference foes. The Wave will enter the contest winless this season at 0-8 overall. BY ANTHONY GIUDICE agiudice@ridgewoodtimes.com @A_GiudiceReport The Maspeth High School Argonauts boys varsity basketball team fi nished 2015 on a strong note and are looking to continue their dominance into the new year. So far in the 2015-16 campaign, the Argonauts boast a 6-0 record in the Public School Athletic League (PSAL), with impressive wins over Metropolitan Campus and Academy of American Studies, and lopsided victories over Baccalaureate School for Global Education and Renaissance. The Argonauts fi nished the year by winning the fi fth-annual Jim Dilg Varsity Basketball Tournament. The boys defeated Holy Cross B to make the fi nals and then they beat Cathedral Prep 58-32 in the fi nals to claim the trophy. The new year kicks off with a game against the Information Technology High School Blackhawks today at Maspeth High School.
