Lynch, President www.nycpba.org It happened in Queens on Father’s Day 2013. Ten-year old Jacob Rodriguez screamed for help as his mother, Christina, was being savagely beaten by a man. Nearby, with his family at a Father’s Day celebration, off-duty police officer Joseph Koch heard the screams and ran to investigate. Joe struggled with the violent man and was injured during the fight but he saved Christina’s life and took a violent criminal off the streets. Young Jacob told a reporter: “I’m thinking about becoming a police officer because of what Joe did. He saved me and my mom. Maybe I can do that for others.”
