30 The Queens Courier • december 17, 2015 FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT www.qns.com Thank You! By Rev. Monsignor Jamie J. Gigantiello Vicar for Development, Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn Once again, we are reminded how important it is to pause from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and give thanks for all of our blessings. The Christmas season calls us to do something we should do every day of the year - thank God for all we have received. It is so important that this day be set aside because too often we are caught by the rapid pace of our daily routine to stop and say “thank you.” My staff at Futures in Education and I wish to extend our gratitude and appreciation to you, our supporters and co-collaborators, for making the work of this organization possible. While we try our best to offer our thanks to each of you in public and private, we can never thank you enough for the outpouring of generosity which you have displayed over the years. As partners in our mission, you are aware of the need that exists, so during this month of thanks I wish to simply say thank you. If you are new to Futures in Education, I would like to take this time to explain our goals and mission and hope you will consider joining our team.  Since its inception, Futures in Education has awarded $80 million to over 25,000 students. The median household income for scholarship recipients is $28,000, with 31% of our students living below the poverty level. We are able to help 5,000 students in Brooklyn and Queens benefit from our scholarship programs. Unfortunately, $11 million in scholarship requests go unfulfilled each year and 3,000 students receive no award at all due to funding limitations.  Futures in Education’s Be an Angel to a Student program pairs a student with an “Angel” donor who provides partial tuition assistance of $1,500 or more per year and enjoys receiving updates on academic performance throughout the academic year.  How can you help? Visit our website at www.futuresineducation.org or call us at 718-965-7308 to learn about how you can give a financially disadvantaged child the opportunity of a lifetime to attend one of our superb Catholic schools in Brooklyn and Queens.  By supporting Futures in Education, you can help families like Anthony’s: “I wanted Anthony to attend Catholic school because I believe that a good religious foundation is the best way to ensure a good life. Last year tuition was a challenge but I truly feel it was worth the sacrifice. I am grateful to you all for making this coming year so much easier. Thank you for helping me to keep my son on the correct path so that tomorrow he can grow to be a good and productive human being!” – Parent of Angel Student While you may have made a gift to Futures already, have you considered leaving a legacy? For more information on making a gift that won’t cost you during your lifetime, please contact Director of Development Nick Vendikos at 718-965-7308 ext. 1624 or nvendikos@cfbq.org.
