The couple met at a bowling alley party in 2011 and discovered that they shared a love of traveling. Chin proposed to Patel in 2013. The couple was married in a traditional Hindu service, which concluded with Patel and Chin each being adorned with a floral garland, followed by dinner and traditional dancing. The bride wore a white silk sari with gold embroidery and a red and gold bodice. The groom wore a white tunic with gold embroidery, white trousers and a red scarf. Patel has lived in Flushing since age 2, attending P.S. 32 and Townsend Harris High School. She received her master’s degree in industrial and labor relations from Cornell. She worked with Citibank in Queens and then was transferred to London for three years. She decided that she was not interested in a traditional arranged marriage, so she used her dowry to pay for a yearlong backpacking trip around the world. She returned to Queens and joined the Oppenheimer Fund, where she is now VP, HR relationship manager. Chin was born and raised in Freeport, Long Island, and graduated from the NY Institute of Engineering in Old Westbury. He is now a commercial architect with S9 Architecture & Engineering. Congressman Joseph Crowley met with Scott Shaw, COO of Lincoln Technical Institute, and the institute’s Queens staff on Oct. 30. The congressman was accompanied by Ann Marie Anzalone, his chief of staff, and Alex Florez, his press secretary. The meeting was set to help the congressman get an overview of Lincoln as a whole and its Queens campus, which is within his district. The goal was to create open dialogue on various education issues and engage in a high-level discussion on the “gainful employment” regulations. Three CTE (Career Technical Education) high school partners, Thomas Edison H.S., Automotive H.S. and Nassau BOCES, sent representatives in support of Lincoln. After the meeting, the congressman met with current students who started the Lincoln Technical Institute program directly after high school, some of whom are constituents from Crowley’s district. TABITHA BOB BRENNAN The Queens Courier got into the Halloween spirit on Oct. 31, when staff members and their kids dressed up for the spooky holiday. Costumes ranged from Josie from “Josie and the Pussycats” to Elsa from “Frozen.”
