For Game 1 of the World Series, this Maspeth restaurant and bar was fl ooded with a sea of blue and orange Mets apparel. O’Neill’s was established by George O’Neill Sr. on Dec. 5, 1933, a day after prohibition. It now operates as a family-owned restaurant for 80 years. O’Neill’s presents a versatile atmosphere because it juxtaposes a dining room with a catering hall and sports bar. The dining area offers a cozier and quieter environment. The secluded room is designed with brick walls, a fi re place and suffi cient seating. The catering hall is also spacious with a capacity of 150 guests, who utilize this section for family christenings, birthdays and anniversary parties, bereavements and more. The sports bar is dimly lit yet illuminated by the vast array of mounted televisions. Waitresses bustled on Thursday night to serve the energetic Mets fans. Echoes of “Let’s Go Mets!” vibrated against the sports bar walls. On Monday and Thursday from 5 to 11 p.m., wings are 50 cents each. The porterhouse steak for two is another favorite selection. For $82, this dish incorporates hash brown potatoes and cream spinach, served with onion rings. Hamburger lovers can enjoy O’Neill’s specialty burgers for $13.50. These specials consist of bacon and melted blue cheese or a Hawaiian version with sliced pineapples and Canadian bacon. All burgers are served with French fries, lettuce, tomatoes and kosher pickles. O’Neill’s is an essential restaurant and bar for your favorite grub and games.
