SUNDAY, AUGUST 17 Queens Botanical Garden will have a craft table at The Shops at Skyview Center, where they will be making a fl ower and leaf press to preserve fl owers and leaves before summer ends. The crafts will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at 40-24 College Point Blvd., Flushing. Astoria Flea is in full gear, with vendors selling vintage clothing, antiques, gifts, food and more. The outdoor market will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Kaufman Astoria Studios, 34-12 36th St., Long Island City. Dive into the open waters with trained Urban Park Rangers who will lead you in a Intermediate Canoeing experience. The rangers will lead you from gentle waters of protected lakes to challenging open waters of rivers and bays. All participants must attend a mandatory safety review led by a trained Ranger. This event is for ages 8 years old and up. Admission is free and will take place on Bayswater Park, Beach 35 St. and Beach Channel Drive. MONDAY, AUGUST 18 Queens Library is offering English conversation classes in which instructors Lucette and Arline will talk about holidays, cooking, art, music, family and other topics of your interest. The class is for adults and is meant to improve your English vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation. School-aged children are welcome in the reading while the class is in session. THURSDAY, AUGUST 21 Queens Museum continues with “Passport Thursdays” this week, taking all guests on a oneday excursion to Korea, with music by the Song Hee Lee Dance Company and a screening of the fi lm “Approved for Adoption.” The fi lm will run for 75 minutes in French, with English subtitles, and free hands-on art-making workshops for the family will take place before the movie starts. The event is from 7 to 10 p.m. at the New York City Building, Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Admission is free. In the case of rain, the program moves inside the museum. The Something Special Big Band, with vocalist Barbara Ara and bandleader Phil Costa, celebrates Count Basie’s 100th birthday with a tribute that will feature selections such as “Jumpin’ at the Woodside” and more. Queens Botanical Garden will have the market set up on Dahlia Avenue, directly off Main Street, outside the garden fence. They will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15.
