The event includes a performance by drummer and bandleader Ray Mantilla, a children’s art workshop presented by the Queens Museum and hula-hoop fun for all. The block party, hosed by Jazzmobile, is free and will run from 4 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21. It will take place in Corona, on 107th Street in front of the museum. FRIDAY, AUGUST 15 Learn and enhance your ability to deliver poetry and develop stage presence in this Poetry Workshop with Ngoma Hill, presented by 3rd Space. The performance workshop will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Queens Council on the Arts located at 37-1 35th Ave. The entrance is on 37th Street in Astoria. Enjoy traditional music and watch demonstrations of 19th century crafts at King Manor Museum’s twoday event, “Craftsmen Days.” The event will take place from 12 to 4 p.m., and gives guests the opportunity to meet artisans and learn about broom making, tinsmithing, woodturning and more. Admission is free, and the museum is located inside King Park, Jamaica Avenue and 150th Street, Jamaica. Northeast Queens Parks presents a puppet adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood for “Puppets in the Park.” The hour-long show, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. is free, and will take place in Alley Pond Park on 76th Ave. and Springfi eld Blvd. They advise guests to bring a low chair or blanket for comfort. Bring a blanket or chair to Cunningham Park and sit in for a show of Cymbeline by Shakespeare In The Park. Cymbeline is an action-adventure store that combines tragedy, comedy and romance, examining the issue of faith. The event runs from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is free and the event will take place in Main Park House, 196 St. and Union Turnpike. SATURDAY, AUGUST 16 State Sen. Joseph Addabbo will host his sixth Veterans Barbeque in which veterans and their families can gather and indulge in hamburgers, hot dogs, salads and other barbeque staples cooked up by a local volunteer, all while enjoying live music. Participate in a family game day in Woodhaven, where children of all ages and their families are invited to enjoy Queens Library’s many board games. Queens Library presents the fi lm screening of “On My Own,” a documentary focused on the stigma of single motherhood, followed by a discussion. Learn the basics of adaptive sports such as Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Football, Sled Hockey (on ice), Sitting Volleyball, Adapted Swimming and more, in this week’s Adaptive Sports Program. Wheelchairs are provided for use in the program.
