Armed robbers on the lam
after stealing cash from
Astoria gas station
Police are searching for two armed robbers
who allegedly stole more than $400
from an Astoria gas station on the night
of Th ursday, July 23.
Authorities say that the two suspects
entered the Mobil Gas Station at 32-09
21st St. just before 9 p.m. on July 23.
Once inside, the two men went behind
the sales counter, brandished a black
fi re arm and demanded the 65-year-old
employee give them cash from the register,
police said.
Th e robbers then opened the sales register,
grabbed $450 in cash and stole
the employee’s cellphone before fl eeing
southbound on 21st Street, according to
authorities. No one was hurt during the
incident.
Police on Friday released surveillance
video, which shows the robbery in progress.
Both suspects are men with dark complexion.
One man, with a slim build,
was seen wearing a Black Lives Matter
shirt and cap, dark shorts, and black
and white sneakers. Th e other man, who
is bald with an athletic build, was last
seen wearing an orange shirt with the
American fl ag on the front, red shorts
and black sneakers, according to authorities.

Police arrest homeless man in
connection with attempted
rape inside of Forest Park
Police arrested a homeless man for
allegedly trying to rape a woman inside of
Forest Park Saturday evening.
Authorities say that a 51-year-old
woman was walking on the Orange Trail
inside the park around 6:30 p.m. on July 25
when Cuauhtemoc Cardenas approached
her from behind, tapped her on the shoulder,
and struck her on the head.
Cardenas, who is homeless, then pushed
the woman into some bushes off the trail,
pulled the victim’s pants down, and began
to choke her with an unknown piece
of clothing while attempting to sexually
assault her, police said.
Th e victim fought back and called for
help, and Cardenas fl ed west toward a
parkway underpass, according to authorities.
Th e woman was transported to a nearby
hospital, where she was treated and
released, police said.
Cardenas has been charged with
attempted rape, strangulation and assault,
according to the NYPD.

Cops seek suspect in
connection with attempted
robbery inside Union Turnpike-
Kew Gardens subway station
Police are searching for a man who
tried to rob a woman inside of the Union
Turnpike-Kew Gardens subway station
earlier this month.
Authorities say that a 49-year-old
woman was exiting the station around
7:20 p.m. on July 15 when an unidentifi ed
man approached her and demanded her
property. Th e victim refused and fl ed the
station, while the man fl ed in the opposite
direction.
Nothing was stolen and nobody was
hurt in the incident, police said.
Authorities released surveillance video
and a photo of the suspect on July 26.
