The 18-year-old victim was walking near Putnam and Seneca avenues at about 2:50 a.m. on July 16 when the two suspects came up behind her, and one of the men choked the girl and covered her mouth with his hand, cops said. The second suspect tried to steal her purse, but she was able to hold on to it. The first suspect then attempted to sexually assault her, but both men fled when someone passed by them, authorities said. The victim was taken to Woodhull Hospital where she was treated and released. Franclin Velazquez, 21, of Brooklyn, and Jorge Maldonado, 28, of the Bronx, have both been charged with attempted rape and sexual abuse, police said. Maldonado has also been charged with assault. 108th Precinct Long Island City, Sunnyside and Woodside Police release sketch of suspect in Woodside punching death Cops have released a sketch of the suspect who fatally punched a 56-year-old man in Woodside last month. Roberto Martires was on Roosevelt Avenue near 69th Street just after midnight on June 21 when he was attacked, cops said. A stranger allegedly walked up to Martires that Saturday night and slugged him the face. Martires, who was just a few blocks from his home when he was assaulted, was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition, where he died from his injuries the following Tuesday, according to authorities. Published reports initially said that Martires’ attacker asked if he was Filipino before punching him, causing him to hit his head on the pavement. But it was later reported that police are not investigating the incident as a hate crime and it may have resulted from the World Cup. LIC robber forces 90-year-old to drive to ATMs: cops A robber grabbed a 90-year-old man in front of a Long Island City supermarket and forced him to drive to two ATMs to withdraw cash, police said. The victim was walking to his car outside of the Stop & Shop on 48th Street at about 10:45 a.m. on July 18 when the suspect approached him, cops said. The suspect grabbed the man by the neck and told him to hand over his wallet. He then demanded the victim’s PIN and made him drive to two locations, where he took out money from ATMs, according to police. Authorities said the suspect is in his 30s and has braids. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477). 115th Precinct East Elmhurst, Corona and Jackson Heights Cops looking for suspect in Jackson Heights attempted rape A man followed a woman into her Jackson Heights apartment building last month and attempted to rape her, police said. The attack happened at about 5 a.m. on June 6 near Roosevelt Avenue, according to authorities. After following the victim, the suspect threw her to the ground before he tried to sexually assault her, police said. The woman did not sustain any injuries. Police have released a video of the suspect, and describe him as Hispanic, in his 20s, about 5 feet 4 inches tall and 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a shortsleeved button-down shirt and jeans. Antoine Burroughs, also known as “Butter” or “Youngblood,” along with an accomplice, Leon Whitfield, is accused of attempting to rob Bartolomeo Antoniello at his Ozone Park residence in September 2009, according to officials. The pair was allegedly targeting any cash he had on hand from his pizza shop, Antoniello’s. His son, 29-year-old Gerardo Antoniello, tried to protect his father, and was fatally shot in the head during the struggle, officials said. Burroughs, who was indicted in the United States District Court, Southern District of New York, on March 13, is charged with murder, robbery conspiracy, attempted robbery and discharging a firearm, according to the FBI. An arrest warrant for Burroughs was issued the same day. Whitfield was arrested on March 18. The FBI is now offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of Burroughs. He is described as 25 years old, 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighs about 180 to 190 pounds and has a prominent mole on his right cheek. Burroughs was last known to be in Harlem, and is believed to have family and friends in Harlem and the Bronx. He should be considered armed and extremely dangerous.
