FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT www.queenscourier.com JULY 16, 2015 • The Queens Courier 35 ▶business Clients feel secure with Suydam Agency BY ALIN A SURIE L [email protected] @alinangelica If stability is what everyone wants in an insurance agent, potential clients need look no further than Suydam Agency, a family-operated real estate and insurance company that has specialized in College Point since 1911. Suydam Agency has now been run by five generations of the same family since its establishment in 1909. It has since grown to serve thousands of clients while still maintaining a small office of nine employees. Siblings Anthony, Adam and Amber Skoros continue the firm’s family tradition by working there on a day-to-day basis with their parents, Henry and Virginia. The office is active in the community as well, having been a proud member of the College Point Board of Trade for over 30 years and donating funds to support local schools, the volunteer Ambulance Corps and the College Point Little League. The agency started out with a much more limited array of services, making deals as a real estate company before starting to sell insurance in the 1940s. Suydam Agency still works with homeowners looking to buy and sell real estate in north Queens, and licensed real estate brokers Adam and Anthony Skoros have experience in all aspects of real estate transactions, from negotiating the terms of sales and rentals to appraising the value of homes and commercial buildings. All three of the Skoros progeny work on insurance deals for their company, and many types of coverage are offered, such as dental insurance, flood insurance and home insurance. According to office manager Anthony Skoros, business has been particularly busy since the passing of the Affordable Care Act increased public awareness on the importance of having health care. The widespread news coverage on recent natural disasters such as Superstorm Sandy in 2012 and Hurricane Irene in 2011 has also driven many homeowners to buy flooding and home insurance. “Especially now in today’s climate, it seems like it’s becoming more prevalent than ever,” Skoros said. Although insurance is increasingly necessary in the modern world, it’s Suydam’s emphasis on customer service which really seals the deal for many of their client base. The agency tailors each experience to a client’s particular needs, and in this way they are able to forge long-term business relationships. As a courtesy, elderly clients with mobility issues sometimes receive important papers by delivery, and everyone who meets the office staff is struck by their friendly demeanor. “We know we’re in the service business,” Skoros said, “and since BUSINESS in the NEWS we’re a family business we like to keep people happy.” A Debate Forum will be held for Candidates on the ballot for the District 23 Council Seat formerly held by departing Councilman Mark Weprin Wednesday, August 5th @ 7:30 pm North Shore Towers Cinema 27240 Grand Central Pkwy, Floral Park, Queens Sponsored by North Shore Towers Courier, Queens Courier & North Shore Towers
