The popular Long Island City flea market, located at the outdoor lot by the waterfront at the corner of Fifth Street and 46th Avenue, is the perfect spot to do some Father’s Day shopping and enjoy some time with dad. With a focus on no chemicals, preservatives or stabilizers, they aim to upgrade the sauce world. 3) Afíshonado facebook.com/Afishonadonyc Raised in Queens, owners and chefs April and Leo have been influenced by several ethnicities and cultures, which can be seen in their interpretation of food. Both are trained chefs and lovers of food and flavors. Through their experiences working in restaurants and catering, and having been exposed to local ethnic food scenes that surround them, they collaborated to create Afíshonado, a concept created when a search for fish tacos was almost nil unless found in the Rockaways or at expensive Mexican-themed restaurants in NYC. Afíshonado offers a variety of seafood tacos, from beerbatter fried and pan-seared cod and shrimp, clams, oysters and crab. They also offer a vegetarian option using tofu as an alternative. Each taco is paired with toppings such as fried onions, slaw and pico de gallo or corn and black bean salad. Sauces vary from mild tomatillo to spicy roasted tomato salsas or zesty creamy sauces using sour cream. Additionally, each taco comes with a side dish of fried plantain chips with a special garlic mojo sauce. 4) Mr. Guacamole Mr. Guacamole prepares fresh, made to order, delicious guacamole and pico de gallo served with chips to be enjoyed on the spot, or on the go.
