Several of the student leaders decided to write a letter to Cruz and other supervisors – teachers Johny Recio, Eileen Hacha - Sattar and Deborah Joyce – expressing their appreciation for their service. Hillcrest business students travel to S.F. Two students from the Virtual Enterprise International (VEI) business class at Hillcrest High School recently headed west to San Francisco for the VEI Trade Fair. Their class is operated much as a real business, with each student having a position. During the fair, the Hillcrest students set up a booth and sold their virtual (make-believe) online business material. They also gained skills on selling their products while socializing with Californians and learned how other companies promoted their goods. The students pictured are Rajkamal Kour, the accountant, and Juliet Bachu, marketing director. Hillcrest newspaper editor looks to enter business world After classes each day, Malisa Bipat works hard as layout and managing editor and web designer for The Highlighter, Hillcrest High School’s newspaper. She started doing community service in her freshman year and has helped teachers ever since. She’s also active in the Knitting, Girl-Up, Youth Take Charge and International clubs, and is on the varsity handball team. Outside of school, she has worked as a counselor and reading assistant. Bipat was recently awarded a $500 scholarship for academic excellence from the state Education Department. She plans to attend the University of Schenectady to study business management. Cambria Heights student fi nds time for service Jada Rivera is a senior in the Law, Government and Community Service High School at the Campus Magnet Complex in Cambria Heights and is always available for school service. She is a member of the Leadership class, has participated in local food drives and cancer walks, and helps in the New Hope Pentecostal Church food pantry. She is also a member of the school chapter of Blossom, a youth development group for young ladies. She currently works at a local day care center and plans to pursue a legal career. MAST students host science fair at Campus Magnet The Mathematics, Science, Research and Technology High School (MAST) at the Campus Magnet Complex in Cambria Heights held a science expo on April 29 in the campus library. Nine classes displayed boards with their projects, each of which were viewed by classes on campus. Teachers engaged their students about the presentations. Magnet students head to Washington The MAST High School students from the Cambria Heights Campus Magnet Complex recently took a one-day trip to Washington, D.C., as a reward for good work and a learning experience. The students toured landmarks including the Smithsonian Institute, the Air and Space Museum, the Lincoln Memorial, the White House and the Korean War Memorial. AND ROBERT POZARYCKI
