Bayside restaurant appears on ‘Kitchen Nightmares’ BY LIAM LAGUERE [email protected] @liamlaguerre A Bayside restaurant is set to wake up from its nightmare soon. Kati Allo on 172nd Street was featured on April 18 on the season premiere of Fox’s “Kitchen Nightmares,” a hit reality television show where celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay fixes failing eateries. In “Kitchen Nightmares,” Ramsay, who is prone to foul language, visits restaurants around the country to identify and diagnose problems to help turn them around. The Greek restaurant, opened by husband and wife Emmanuel and Christine Zavolas in 2000, was dwindling, which threatened the couple’s marriage. This was revealed in the episode, but the couple turned down interview requests about the show until ongoing renovation on the restaurant is complete. “Kati Allo in Queens, New York, was really a difficult situation. It was a husband and wife whose marriage was completely being destroyed by the restaurant,” said Arthur Smith, the show’s executive producer. “In this episode, the one thing to note is that it is the greatest reaction we’ve ever had to a reveal.” The couple liked Ramsay’s solutions, which include a new menu. “I’m so excited, I’m so happy,” said Christine, who is the executive chef. “My passion came back.” The restaurant will be reopened within the next couple of weeks, owners said.
