The Bears jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in their half of the first inning. Grover Cleveland responded in the second, posting three runs, to take a 3-1 lead. Both teams traded a pair of runs in the third inning, bringing the score to 5-3 in favor of the Tigers. After a scoreless fourth frame, Seward Park Campus managed to take the lead with three runs in the top of the fifth. Grover Cleveland could not get the tying run across the plate against the Bears Giovanni Rosa, who went all seven innings, striking out 11, walking one, and surrendering only a single earned run in the win. The loss drops the Tigers’ record to 1-2 in the early season. Photos by Joseph Swift sports BWG teams come out strong at start of NYCFC League season This past weekend the Blau Weiss Gottschee (BWG) teams started their season in the New York City Football Club (NYCFC) League, which is comprised of the 2008, 2007, 2006 and 2005 groups. All of the age groups are divided into two teams, and they then compete against other NYCFC affiliates. On Sunday, April 2, the BWG teams played against New York Soccer Club from Westchester. Here are the results: The BWG 2008 Blue team defeated NYSC Blue, 9-2, while the BWG 2008 White squad shutout NYSC White 11 – 0. This group played two other games on the weekend in the New York Cup, winning against East Meadow 5-2, and Asphalt Green 5-0. The BWG 2007 Blue team beat NYSC Blue 9-4, and the White team beat NYSC White 6-5. The BWG 2006 Blue team defeated NYSC Blue by a score of 5-2, and the BWG 2006 Orange team outlasted NYSC Orange 5-4. The BWG 2005 group after their wins in the New York City Football Club League season opener. Finally, the BWG 2005 Blue squad beat NYSC Blue 9-6, while the BWG 2005 Orange team easily defeated NYSC 9-1.
