Physicians act as leaders and partners in a hospital’s efforts to continuously improve the quality of care provided to patients. In view of the vital role that physicians play, Mount Sinai Queens has announced that 25 Mount Sinai Queensaffiliated and staff physicians were included in the Castle Connolly Metro Top Doctors, 17th edition. Based on its foundation of peer nominations, Castle Connolly has been producing Top Doctors lists for more than two decades. Their physician-led research team carefully reviews the credentials of every physician being considered for inclusion and takes into account many other factors including medical education, training, board certifications, hospital appointments, administrative posts, and professional achievements. “We are extraordinarily proud that so many of our deserving physicians have been acknowledged for their outstanding work,” said Caryn A. Schwab, Executive Director, Mount Sinai Queens. “This is a testament to our physicians as they work to deliver quality outcomes and outstanding experiences for our patients.” “The level of collaboration and support among physicians, nurses and staff at Mount Sinai Queens is unparalleled,” said Sabino Augello, MD, Gastroenterologist. “Having this support really elevates my interaction with patients and colleagues, and helps me be the best physician I can be.” The physicians on staff at Mount Sinai Queens are remarkably diverse; some esteemed members have been on staff for more than forty years, and new members are joining every month, according to Brian Radbill, MD, FACP, Chief Medical Officer and Vice President Medical Affairs, Mount Sinai Queens. Working in the Mount Sinai Health System, the physicians get to know their counterparts across campuses. This reinforces best practice across all disciplines. “I have been part of the Mount Sinai Queens family for more than 27 years,” said Reno DiScala, MD, Family Medicine. “Knowing that I have gained the respect and recognition of my peers here at the hospital and throughout the medical community is truly gratifying. It is a actually a reflection of the quality care at Mount Sinai Queens.” Physician-hospital collaboration is often essential when considering new programs or expanding existing programs. Having outstanding physicians in oncology was key to fulfilling the initial idea leading to the opening of the brand new Mount Sinai Queens Infusion Center located across the street from Hospital. “There was an obvious need to make accessible to our local community all of the marvelous cutting edge cancer treatments that are available,” said Howard Greenberg, MD, Assistant Professor, Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and Director of the Mount Sinai Queens Infusion Center. “That care is now offered in this community in a modern facility with all the amenities a discerning patient would expect.” Several physicians in leadership positions at the Hospital were named to the list including Panagiotis Manolas, MD, Assistant Clinical Professor, Surgery, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Chief of Surgery; Voravut Ord Sarabanchong, MD, Assistant Professor, Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Chief of Gynecology; Jeffrey Sandhaus, MD, Assistant Clinical Professor, Urology, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and Chief of Urology; Craig Youner, MD, Assistant Clinical Professor, Radiology, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and Chief of Radiology; and Edward Yang, MD, Professor, Orthopaedics, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and Chief of Orthopaedics, who was appointed to that position in January of 2014. “We are continually improving the compassionate care we provide to orthopaedic patients at Mount Sinai Queens,” said Dr. Yang. “It is rewarding to have my role in that care recognized.” Congratulations to all of the honored physicians.
