These pieces range from plates, to bowls, to trays made in Noguchi’s eccentric style. He is internationally known for his sculptures, one being his “Red Cube” art piece, which can be found in Manhattan. His ceramics exhibit, “Functional Ceramics,” opened on Jan. 27 will run until July 24. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday and is located on 9-01 33rd Rd. in Long Island City. O’Connor Field is hosting an adult practice session (18+) for beginner to intermediate-level soccer players from 7 to 8 a.m. This session is free; just be sure to register online. Raymond M. O’Connor Field is located on 32nd Avenue/Corporal Kennedy Street in Bayside. The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene will be providing an 8-hour Mental Health First Aid training course. This course is open to adults interested in learning about the warning signs of mental illness, how to provide fi rst aid, and what resources are available in order to truly assist someone with a mental illness. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is useful for keeping someone in stable condition until professional help arrives for them. Upon completing this course, participants will receive a certifi cation for MHFA. The course lasts from 8:30 to 5:30 p.m. and will be held on 42-09 28th St. in Queens. FRIDAY, FEB.12 The story of African Americans during the Civil War is one that is rarely told. Thanks to the Queens Library of Cambria Heights, these stories will not be forgotten. From 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., the library will present the stories of these soldiers through the use of dioramas, re-enactments and artifacts from the Civil War.
