3 “Black String” comes
to Flushing Town Hall
to present modern music
with ancient instruments
from Korea. The group creates
a unique musical language
based on classical
Korean music as well
as jazz and improvisation.
Performers include Yoon-
Jeong Jeo on the geomungo
(Korean zither), Jean
Oh on the electric jazz guitar,
Aram Lee on the daegeum
(bamboo flute) and
Min Wang Hwang on the
janggu (Korean drum).
Tickets are $16 per person,
$10 for members and students.

Stewardship Team to
protect forested areas in
Forest Park! Volunteers will
learn how to identify and
safely remove invasive plants
in order to help restore the
forest and create a healthier
ecosystem. They will
also be installing trail blazes

Reading Series and Open Mic Night at the Forest Hills Library. Community performers

explore the World of Bugs.
You can examine the parts of
a squirmy earthworm, create
your own insect, and hunt

Woodland. Activities
are geared for 4- to 10-yearolds,
but all are welcome to
attend. Activities will include
indoor nature-themed hands
on activities, followed by a
short nature walk around the
Garden. Bundle up and dress

Bookshop for a special
musical story time
with guest Arthur Flowers
as he reads and performs
“Brer Rabbit Retold:
Illustrated Tales with
Spoken Word and Music,”
with the Kalimba/Mbira
instrument. The Brer Rabbit
Stories were originally oral
tales told by slaves from the
American South. In this powerful
rendering for children
and adults, Flowers re-tells
them as wisdom tales for
a contemporary audience,
bringing them back as one
of the sturdy roots of black
literature. 1 to 2 p.m., The

10 Experience some
amazing visuals
on the silver screen as the
Museum of the Moving
Image showcases the films
of Stan Brakhage. He created
hundreds of films, mostly
silent, and each an adventure
in visual perception. This
selection reveals the breadth
of his ambition, with themes
including history, nature and
art. Six of his films, each
between 4 and 19 minutes
long, will be featured. $15
admission includes full-day
admission to the museum.
