A church in Long Island
City is seeking to build
a seven-story, mixed-use
building on its site.
The Church of the
Redeemer at 30-14
Crescent St. fi led plans
with the Department of
Buildings to construct a
structure with 84,400
square feet of community
facility space mostly for
a health care facility and
some church offi ce space
on the fi rst fl oor.
Th e Protestant Episcopal
church was founded
in 1866 as part of the
Episcopal Diocese of Long
Island. It is located across
the street from Mount
Sinai Queens Hospital.
Plans also include 56
parking spaces in the cellar,
46 parking spaces in
the sub-cellar and storage
space for 15 bicycles.
It is not clear where
church services would
take place if the current
one-story structure were
to be demolished. A receptionist
at the church said
“no comment” when QNS
asked questions about the
church’s plans.
JWC Architect Engineer
is the architect on record.
James Wu Chen, the
owner of the fi rm, was not
available for comment as
of press time.
YIMBY fi rst reported on
the plans.
