Detectives picked up Gjergj (George) Logu-Cupi, 52, at his Shelton, Connecticut, home earlier this month after the NYPD Queens Homicide Squad received information from an anonymous whistleblower regarding his whereabouts. Logu-Cupi was the suspect behind the fatal shooting of Roberto Adanes, 25, at 8:10 p.m. on July 14, 2011, a few steps from the victim’s Austin Street residence. According to authorities, Adanes and his 30-yearold brother became involved in a verbal dispute with the suspect over a double-parked car in the vicinity of Austin and 125th streets. Prosecutors said Logu-Cupi left the scene, then returned moments later and opened fire on both men; Adanes was struck in the torso, while his brother took a bullet to his head. Reportedly, the suspect was observed fleeing the scene inside a white van with Connecticut license plates. Officers from the 102nd Precinct and EMS units responded to the incident. Adanes died at Jamaica Hospital; the 30-year-old shooting victim was treated for his injuries, but still has the bullet lodged in his skull, according to Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown. Soon after being extradited to Queens, sources familiar with the investigation said, Logu-Cupi was identified through a photo lineup as the suspect in the deadly shooting. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and was ordered held without bail. Logu-Cupi is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 12, 2016, and faces a maximum of 50 years to life behind bars if convicted. “This was a senseless shooting following a traffic dispute,” Brown said in a statement issued on Dec. 30. “A young man was killed and his older brother seriously wounded. Gun violence has no place in a civilized society and must end now.” 108TH PRECINCT Long Island City, Woodside and Sunnyside Police seek three suspects in pattern of LIC burglaries Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying three suspects who broke into two Long Island City apartments just a few days before the new year. The burglars first struck on Dec. 28, 2015, between 9:18 and 9:35 p.m., according to the NYPD. The police did not release the location of the apartment but did say the suspects entered through an unlocked rear entrance and went to the basement. It is unclear if anything was taken. On Dec. 29, between 10 a.m. and 2:45 p.m., the suspects entered an apartment on Jackson Avenue and damaged a garage door to steal a bicycle from the property. Authorities describe the three suspects as males between the ages of 17 and 20. Anyone with information in regards to these incidents is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577- TIPS (8477). 109TH PRECINCT Flushing, Bay Terrace, College Point, Whitestone, Malba, Beechhurst, Queensboro Hill and Willets Point Pair arrested in Whitestone New Year’s car theft Two people were arrested Sunday for a Whitestone carjacking that left an 84-year-old man assaulted in his own driveway on New Year’s Day, according to authorities. Police said the elderly man was about to move the red 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt from his driveway on Willets Point Boulevard when two individuals, whom he believed to be black males, approached asking for directions to the nearest train station at about 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 1. One of the men then struck the victim in the face — causing a laceration to his lip — and then the suspects fled in an unknown direction with the vehicle and the man’s wallet. The man was treated by EMS on the scene and later taken to NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens Hospital for his injuries. According to a Facebook post by a female family member, he suffered from a fracture on the right side of his face and received 15 stitches on his lip. Cops later found the vehicle during an unrelated investigation of gunfire in the vicinity of Albany Avenue in East New York, Brooklyn. Jamel White, 30, and Quiana Hodges, 17, were reportedly in the vehicle at this time and the arresting officer began to pursue the pair after observing them disobey a stop sign at Albany Avenue and Decatur Street. Although White and Hodges fled when the officer attempted to pull them over to the side of the road — even going so far as to drive the wrong way down a one-way street during the chase — they were eventually apprehended less than two miles away. White was charged with multiple criminal and traffic violations as a result of the incident, including grand larceny, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of stolen property, fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving and driving wrong the wrong way on a one-way street. Hodges was charged with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. Photo courtesy of NYPD School custodian from Bayside charged with sexually abusing boys A middle school janitor has been charged with sexually abusing two teen boys who reportedly live in his Bayside co-op building and selling their semen for cash at sperm banks, prosecutors announced. William Romero, 45, was arraigned on Jan. 2 on five counts including sexual abuse, forcible touching, use of a child in a sexual performance and endangering the welfare of a child. Romero — who reportedly works as a janitor at Robert F. Kennedy Community High School in Kew Gardens Hills — allegedly was in contact with the victims from June 1 to Dec. 24, 2015, according to the Queens District Attorney’s office. On multiple occasions, prosecutors said, he allegedly instructed a 16-year-old victim to masturbate in front of him while he watched; sometimes he would also touch the teen’s genitalia. In each instance, police noted, Romero allegedly had the boy ejaculate into a cup for a purported sale to a local sperm bank. After this, he allegedly gave the boy various amounts of money. The second victim — a 15-year-old — also told police that Romero “would help him out with money” if he masturbated in front of him into a cup, also for purported sale to a sperm bank. In statements made to police, according to the criminal complaint, Romero allegedly claimed that he “helped out” whoever needed extra money by offering to sell their sperm, and that he gave the 15-year-old victim money for this purpose. Following his arraignment on Saturday, Jan. 2, Romero was released on $50,000 bond; he is scheduled to reappear in court again on Jan. 8, according to court records.
