There aren’t enough hours in the day to accomplish everything I have to do. Do you have any tips to help me balance my life? A: You are not alone in this dilemma. When we combine increased responsibilities at work and the constant connection to the office through our smartphones, it is difficult to make time for the activities and people that matter most. • Get organized — The more organized you are, the more effective you will be in all areas of your life. Decide what can be sorted, filed, purged or donated to make yourself feel calmer and more productive. • Unplug — Take a break from social media, email and texts. Use that time to recharge and do whatever is important to you. Whether it is reading or swimming or spending time with friends, you will be more productive if you take time to recharge. • Set goals — Make a list of everything you want to accomplish in your personal life and your work life. Then prioritize your goals to keep the most important things at the top of your list. Refer to your list frequently to keep your goals at the top of your mind. • Start small — Small changes can make a big impact on your life. Even during a stressful day, you can take 10 or 15 minutes to walk around more balance into your life. Mindy Stern, SPHR, ACC, is a career and business coach, speaker, trusted advisor and co-author of “How I Created Work Life Balance.” She founded AIM Resource Group Inc. to encourage the growth and success of individuals and organizations.
