Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice
Danny Chun sentenced an East
New York man to up to three years in
prison on Aug. 7 following his conviction
on a string of hate crimes against
white men.
Kevin Raphael, 40, attacked three
people while shouting anti-white expletives,
according to Brooklyn’s top
prosecutor, who used the sentencing
as an opportunity to bash President
Trump’s hate-fi lled rhetoric.
“As hate-fueled speech continues to
emanate from the highest levels of government,
leading to despicable acts of
violence, it is important to set a different
tone in Brooklyn where we will not
tolerate hate crimes against anyone,”
said District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.
“This defendant attacked his victims
based on the color of their skin. There
is no place for discrimination or violence
against anyone based on race,
sexual orientation, gender, ethnicity
or religious practice. The defendant
has now been held accountable for
threatening our residents and their
safety.”
On July 29, 2018, Raphael walked up
to a man and his pregnant wife at Empire
Boulevard near Rogers Avenue,
when he shouted, “What are you looking
at? What are you looking for? I kill
white m----r f-----s like you,” while motioning
to his waistband, making the
man think that Raphael was carrying
a weapon. He then said: “I will kill every
white m----r f----r around here,” according
to the authorities.
The next day, the defendant approached
a law student sitting on a
B25 bus near Fulton and Bond streets,
punching him in the face, and screaming,
“I hate all you white m----r f-----s.
You’re a f----t.” Raphael then got off the
bus, leaving behind his bruised victim.
On the following day, he walked
up to a doctor on the B41 bus at Flatbush
Avenue and Kings Highway and
punched him repeatedly, while snarling,
“You white m----r f-----s think you
got it like that. You white m----r f----r,”
leaving the victim with a concussion
and bruising on his face and eye.
Raphael was arraigned in September
2018 and pleaded guilty to thirddegree
assault as a hate crime on May
1, for which he will spend a minimum
of one-and-a-half years behind bars,
after which he will be eligible for parole,
according to a spokesman for the
district attorney’s offi ce.
