Southern Brooklyn group
donates food to hospital workers
GIVING BACK: Mitchell Partnow, chairperson of TJ Cares, drops off food at New York Community
Hospital. TJ Cares
BY AIDAN GRAHAM
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic,
a local group of southern Brooklyn
politicos teamed up to donate food
to hospital staff at New York Community
Hospital, who have been working
for months on the front lines of the outbreak.
“Compared to what the healthcare
workers do for the community, this
is the least we can do for them,” said
Mitchell Partnow, chairperson of TJ
Cares.
The organization, which formed
last year as the philanthropic arm of
the infl uential Thomas Jefferson Democratic
Club, has held various events
over the past several months benefi ting
local community members with
food drives, events for seniors, cookouts,
and more.
Now, as Brooklyn’s hospitals have
become the epicenter for the pandemic,
Partnow and his fellow philanthropists
decided to lend a helping
hand to worn-out nurses and doctors
with some freshly cooked meals!
“Let’s continue to show our appreciation
to our brave healthcare workers
by staying in when we can, wearing
masks, and practicing social distancing
when we have to go out,” said Partnow,
who donated the food in memory
of his late grandmother.
