Committee. Senator Parker is one of the most
accomplished legislators in Albany history,
having passed over 40 bills, including 21 in
the 2019-20 session.
Besides his service in the State Senate,
Senator Parker has an extensive finance
background in both the public and private
sectors. He worked in the Chairman’s
office of UBS PaineWebber, focusing on
government relations and municipal finance.
Senator Parker was a Project Manager for
the New York State Urban Development
Corporation, where he financed minority
and women-owned business enterprises
(M/WBEs), and promoted community
business redevelopment. He also managed
intergovernmental relations as a Special
Assistant to the New York State Comptroller.
Senator Parker is an alumnus of the New York
City public school system, and has the most
extensive government policy education of
any Comptroller candidate. He received his
Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Service
from Penn State University, with a minor in
Business, and earned a Master of Science
Degree in Urban Policy and Management
from the New School. He is a PhD candidate
in Political Science at the CUNY Graduate
Center, a former Mel King Community Fellow
at MIT, and has been a professor of African-
American Studies and Political Science at
several CUNY and SUNY institutions.
