Brooklyn-based childcare
center celebrated
the grand opening of its
fourth location in Dyker
Heights on Jan. 29. The
new location is the fi rst to
offer a program for children
between the ages of
12 and 24 months.
“We heard that lots
of people in the Dyker
Heights area didn’t have
access to childcare that
they can trust for children
of that age,” said
Amanda Pavia, educational
director at World
of Wonders Daycare.
Pavia, who opened
her newest daycare a
door down from an existing
13th Street childcare
center located between
67th and 68th Streets,
said that the goal of the
12-month-old program
is to expose children to
speech and language,
provide them with opportunities
for social
interaction and encourage
learning through
sensory experiences, including
crafts, music,
and dance.
“We believe that children
between 12 and
24 months old learn
through a balance of free
play and exploration,”
said Jeannine McKenna,
owner of World of Wonders.
The Dyker Heights
facility is also equipped
with a library, and caretakers
are happy to feed
the youngsters, although
parents will need to
provide their own baby
food.
In addition to the
1-year-olds, World of
Wonders also offers
2-year-old, 3-year-old,
and full-time preschool
programs. They are
open from 7 am to 6 pm
on weekdays.
