Alex Harris
The U.S. Department
of Energy's Brookhaven
National Laboratory
has named
Harris as director of
the Lab's Energy Sciences
Department. In his new position,
Harris will manage several divisions of
the Laboratory, including the Center
for Functional Nanomaterials, the
Chemistry Division, and the Condensed
Matter Physics and Materials
Science Division.
Denise Connolly
New Hyde Park-Garden
City Park Union Free
School District appointed
Connolly as assistant
principal, districtwide.
She has served as interim
assistant principal since August 2020
and has been the supervisor in charge of
remote learning for this school year. She
started her career with the district in 2005
as an ENL and special education teacher.
James T. Powers
Powers joined H2M
architects + engineers
as the chief development
and growth officer
as the firm looks
beyond the tri-state
region with the goal of planting roots
in communities across the East Coast.
He has worked in cities throughout the
country, from Albany to Dallas, and on
landmark projects such as the original
World Trade Center.
Leyna Malone
The North Bellmore
School District promoted
Martin Avenue
Elementary School
Principal Leyna
Malone to the district
office as the executive director of pupil
personnel services and special education.
She came to the district in 2015
as Saw Mill Road’s assistant principal
before moving on to Martin Avenue
a year later. Prior to that, she was a
teacher in New York City.
Jay T. Bishoff, MD
Dr. Bishof f has
been named director
of urology for
Northwell Health’s
Central Region, with
oversight of urology
sites in Nassau County and parts of
eastern Queens. He also is a professor
of urology at the Donald and Barbara
Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/
Northwell.
Margarita Maravel
Maravel was appointed
director of human
resources in the
Mineola Union Free
School District. With
more than 20 years of
experience within the district, Maravel
most recently served as the Hampton
Street School Principal. Prior to that,
she held positions including classroom
teacher, reading teacher, literacy coordinator
and instructional leader.
Dennis P. O’Hara
Following a thorough
search process, the
Islip School District
has tapped O’Hara as
its next superintendent
of schools. He joins the
Islip School District from the Hauppauge
Union Free School District, where he has
served as superintendent of schools since
2016. He succeeds Ellen Semel, who retired
in June after a long tenure with the district.
Angela Gallucci
The Massapequa
School District promoted
Gallucci from Massapequa
High School
to the district office
building, as she will
become the new administrative associate
for general administration, effective Sept.
1. She has been a special education teacher
at the high school since 2013.
