Hello, LIC Courier readers!
With Thanksgiving just around the corner, what better way
to celebrate the holiday than spending time with family, eating
tons of homemade food and curling up under the covers with
this month’s issue of the magazine? As always, we’ve got great
stories coming to you from LIC, Astoria, Sunnyside and beyond!
As you’ve probably heard, Seattle-based retail giant Amazon
is coming to LIC. The company’s headquarters is expected
to bring 50,000 high-paying jobs and more than $5 billion in
investment to the fastest growing neighborhood in the country.
The western Queens communities are buzzing with news.
In addition to the investments brought on by Amazon, the
mayor recently promised to invest $180 million in Long Island
City developments. In Astoria, Salt & Bone Smokehouse is
permanently closing its location and becoming an online-only
eatery. Also, public school teachers will soon be getting a
much deserved 7.7 percent pay increase according to the
United Federation of Teachers.
In our Features section, we caught up with a New York
Cosmos B soccer player who is expanding his soccer-style
workouts to Astoria residents and also show you the cool
new art that is now displayed at Socrates Sculpture Park in
Long Island City.
As always, we have some fun suggestions for local events
and art exhibits to attend and you can check those out in our
event calendars. If you have any tips or news you would like
to share with us, reach out to me at jbagcal@qns.com. Enjoy
your November and have a happy holiday season!
