‘DEVIL’ MAY LAUGH NO MORE LIC comedy club up for sale BY ANGY ALTAMIRANO It looks like the laughs might be coming to an end. The owners of The Laughing Devil Comedy Club, located at 47-38 Vernon Boulevard in Long Island City, have announced the venue will be put up for sale. “It has been successful to date, but my business partner, Steve, moved out to Los Angeles for his career, and I had a baby about 11 months ago,” said Jacob Morvay, co-owner of the club. “So we both had changes in our lives that have taken a signifi cant portion of time.” Morvay and Steve Hofstetter started the business in 2011. It became a lovable part of the Vernon Boulevard community, hosting numerous stand-up shows featuring celebrity comedians. The owners hope the venue will remain a comedy club since there are not many entertainment options in Long Island City. “Our fi rst choice is that it would stay the same BEAUTY TIPS 19 news & tips Skin Care Rituals 101 So once again, this month I was planning on writing a summer skincare article, but then when a client came in for a facial and we discussed her “skincare ritual” I almost fainted. I thought to myself, WOW, there are people out there that really don’t know the basic, easy steps for healthy skin care. For instance, choosing the right cleanser should be easy, right? But I fi nd that most people do not use a cleanser that is appropriate for their skin type or condition they might have. They think their skin needs to FEEL CLEAN, therefore it is clean. But what if your skin is dry and you are constantly using a gel cleanser to get it cleaner? NO GOOD. For example, people think that in order for their skin to feel clean it must be dry to the bone with no oil left on their skin at all. That is not always the best for your skin. Remember our skin needs hydration so that those fi ne lines and wrinkles do not show up so apparent and quickly. When we use a cleansing gel or foam and have dry skin, it only makes it dryer. It is not cleaner but defi nitely dehydrated! I always recommend a cleansing milk or cleansing lotion for dry skin, as it will not strip our skin of all its NMF (natural moisturizing factor). Dry skin needs special attention. Starting with the proper cleanser is a step toward a successful skin care ritual. For oily skin, gels or foam cleansers are good because they remove the excess sebum and oil from the skin and help with large pores. But that is not a reason to never moisturize. An oil-free moisturizer must be used, because if oily skin becomes extremely dry from using cleansers with glycolics or other acids, this may actually cause breakouts. The other option for fi nding the right skin care cleansing ritual is to visit an esthetician and let them give you a recommendation. Most over the counter — just a different owner,” said Morvay. “But there are other options for the space. “ Morvay said the club’s neighborhood is a popular one and that the property would come with a liquor license, a big draw for prospective buyers. He also touted a state-of-the-art draft beer system which includes 14 different beers and is already installed. The owners have told other business in the area about the club being up for sale. They said reactions have been supportive, if also a bit melancholy. Morvay and Hofstetter are in talks with potential buyers of the 770-square-foot facility, which has the capacity to expand by another 100 square feet in the back. “We’ve put a lot of time and effort into it,” said Morvay. “It’s defi nitely a labor of love that we are sad to see go, but we have decided what’s best for the business.” cleansers are not bad. Usually, it is only the person choosing it that is confused about their actual skin type. And remember, there are not only cleansing properties in the cleanser but other active ingredients that will help your skin type and any skin conditions you may have. On that note I hope you cleanse wisely and start your beauty ritual with one easy step - choose a cleanser that is right for YOU.
