With the beaches open and outdoor events in full bloom take a look at all the fun and exciting things going on in your neighborhoods. This month’s front cover has us exploding with joy as we bring you the news that the Macy’s fireworks will be making its return this year to the East River for the Fourth of July. You will be able to catch the colorful lights in the sky by the LIC waterfront and also support local businesses. It will be a magical day in western Queens! Another thing hopping on the waterfront this summer is the LIC Flea & Food and Beer Garden, which brings an array of unique vendors right to your fingertips. The beer garden is offering selections from Queens breweries. Grab a glass, cool down and make sure to make the market, which is open every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., your next weekend destination. We continue with our detailed real estate coverage by reporter Liam La Guerre, who keeps us up to date with everything and anything real estate related in your neighborhoods. This month, Liam gives us a look inside LIC’s Hunters Point South Living developments, a two-building complex with 925 affordable housing apartments. Not only does each apartment feature unique amenities, but the buildings will also be home to a rooftop farm, which has a beehive with 13,000 honeybees. He also brings us new renderings for the Hallets Point development, and deals for homebuyers in Astoria. This month we bring you the news of the groundbreaking for the upcoming Hunters Point community library. The community has been working hard to get this library on the LIC waterfront and we will continue to bring you updates on construction until it is time to cut the ribbon on the one-of-a-kind facility. Inside we include delicious photos from both the Taste of Sunnyside and Taste of LIC, and a different take on your traditional bloody mary. This issue also features two Astoria residents making it big on television, and we welcome both Planned Parenthood and rock climbing facility BKB Queensbridge to the Long Island City community. Don’t forget to share your news with us, and send your ideas and feedback to our editor Angy Altamirano. We are looking for people doing great things in the community. We hope you get out and have some fun in the sun, and we wish you an early Happy Fourth of July!
