CHANGE OF SEASON Spring is here and Long Island City, Astoria and Sunnyside are blooming. Before sharing with you what we have inside this month’s issue, we want to continue sending our best wishes for a speedy and healthy recovery to Alan Capper, one of the LIC Courier’s writers and friend. We can’t wait to have him back and sharing his interviews with the community. We also want to say good-bye to Priscilla Morgan, one of the founding board members of the Noguchi Museum. She will be remembered as both a great friend and a major figure in the art world. May she rest in peace. For our front cover we have 5Pointz CEO and curator Johnathan “Meres” Cohen with one of his art pieces that is showcasing at the Jeffrey Leder Gallery in a unique exhibition called “Whitewash.” In this show a group of 5Pointz artists share through their art what they felt after the building they called home was covered in white paint over night. Take a look inside for photos of some of the pieces. This month we celebrate the opening of the LIC Flea & Food 2014 season. The market will be opened every Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the outdoor lot located at 5th Street and 46th Avenue. So gather your friends and family, and make the LIC Flea your next weekend destination! With the LIC Flea already in bloom, on Sunday, May 4 we will be happy to have the grand opening of the Astoria Flea & Food at Kaufman Astoria Studios. Located in the studio’s outdoor lot, the market will operate every Sunday for eight consecutive weekends and bring the best in vendors selling food, antiques, fashion, art and much more. We can’t wait! Queens is proud to have the first arts district designation called the Kaufman Arts District, recognizing the multiple cultural groups in the community. Astoria is now ready for the world to know it’s the place to be for the arts. In this issue we introduce Create NY Space, a new environment for entrepreneurs to come and work on ideas, without the need of having to buy a cup of coffee. We welcome them to the community! Bringing some laughs to the neighborhood, we interviewed one Long Island City comedian, who is part of a duo previously featured on Jimmy Kimmel Live and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. These two travel the United States finding vintage VHS tapes, which they incorporate into their one-of-a-kind skits. The time to get out and visit museums, restaurants, bars, and parks is finally here! Get out and enjoy the warm temperatures, and don’t forget to keep sending us your feedback and ideas. So get started on that spring cleaning and we wish you a happy new season!
